MacIntyre, Bhatia, Higgo, and Harman are the only four lefthanders playing regularly on the PGA tour, and Gribble is trying to join them again. Mickelson and Watson have joined LIV Golf. Many of these other lefthanders are playing on the PGA Champions tour, and a few are retired from the game.
Robert MacIntyre became the sixteenth lefthanded golfer to win a PGA Tour event when he won the RBC Canadian Open on June 2, 2024. MacIntyre was a 27 year old from Scotland playing in his 46th PGA Tournament. Just six weeks later he earned his 2nd PGA title at the Genisis Scottish Open.
Akshay Bhatia became the fifteenth lefthanded golfer to win a PGA tour event when he won the Barracuda Championship on July 23, 2023. Bhatia was just 21 year old and playing in his 35th tour event at the time. In April 2024 he won his 2nd PGA Tour event at the Valero Texas Open.
Garrick Higgo became the fourteenth lefthanded golfer to win a PGA tour event when he won the Palmetto Championship on June 13, 2021. Higgo was just 22 years old and playing in his 2nd PGA event, although he did already have 6 international victories. Higgo has played in 21 events in 2024 with a a top ten finish to his credit.
Cody Gribble became the thirteenth lefthanded golfer to win a PGA tour event when he won the Sanderson Farms Championship in October 2017. He had very little success before or after and fell off the tour but has earned his way back and has played in 31 PGA Tour events over the past two seasons with a couple of top ten finishes.
Greg Chalmers became the twelveth lefthanded golfer to win a PGA tour event when he won the Barracuda Championship in July 2016. Chalmers is from Australia and he has five international victories to his credit. He last played on the PGA Tour in 2023, but recently turned 50 and has started to play in the Champions Tour.
Brian Harman became the eleventh lefthanded golfer to win a PGA tour event when he won the John Deere Classic in July 2014. He earned his second career win at the Wells Fargo Championship in May 2017. Then more than six years later he earned his third PGA win (and first major) at The Open Championship in July 2023.
Ted Potter, Jr. became the tenth lefthanded golfer to win a PGA tour event when he won the Greenbrier Classic in July 2012. He struggled for the next six years, then earned his second win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in Feb 2018. Potter, Jr. still plays occasionally on the PGA Tour although his last top ten finish was in 2021.
Bubba Watson became the ninth lefthanded golfer to earn a PGA tour victory when he won the Travelers Championship in June 2010, his first of 12 tour victories. Read more about Bubba Watson here.
Eric Axley became the eighth lefthanded golfer to win a PGA tour event when he won the Valero Texas Open in September 2006. Axley has not had much success since, but recently turned 50 and joined the Champions Tour.
Steve Flesch became the seventh lefthanded golfer to earn a PGA tour victory when he won the HP Classic of New Orleans in May 2003. Flesch has played in 464 PGA tour events with four victories, three second-place and five third-place finishes. He has become a regular performer and a 4-time winner on the PGA Champions tour.
Mike Weir became the sixth lefthanded golfer to earn a PGA tour victory when he won the Air Canada Championship in September 1999, his first of 8 career wins. Read more about Mike Weir here
Russ Cochran became the fifth lefthanded golfer to earn a PGA tour victory when he won the Centel Western Open in July 1991. Cochran had played almost ten years on tour before his only victory, but he did have eight second-place and four third-place finishes. Cochran later won five more tournaments on the PGA Champions Tour.
Phil Mickelson became the fourth lefthanded golfer to earn a PGA tour victory when he won the Northern Telecom Open in January 1991, the first of his 45 career wins, Read more about Phil Mickelson here.
Ernie Gonzalez became the third lefthanded golfer to earn a PGA tour victory when he won the Pensacola Open in October 1986. Gonzalez also had a third place finish and one more finish in the top ten that year, which was his best year, and he never came close to that success again. Gonzalez passed away in 2020 at the age of 59.
Sam Adams became the second lefthanded golfer to earn a PGA tour victory when he won the Quad Cities Open in September 1973. Adams finished in the top ten six times from 1972 through 1975, but never had another victory and disappeared from the tour by the end of the 1970’s.
Bob Charles became the first lefthanded golfer to earn a PGA tour victory when he won the Houston Open in April 1963, one of six PGA Tour wins in his career. Read more about Bob Charles here
